11 Structures on the Mississippi River and Illinois Waterway
As a sub-consultant, Fickett Structural Solutions was retained to provide Quality Assurance (QA) inspections on 11 hydraulic steel structures (HSS) on the Mississippi River and Illinois Water way for the Rock Island District of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). This included three (3) tainter gates for the Dresden Island Lock & Dam, two (2) miter gates for the LaGrange Lock & Dam, two (2) miter gates for the Peoria Lock & Dam Miter Gates, two (2) miter gates for Lock & Dam 11, two (2) miter gates Lock & Dam 14 and spare maintenance parts for each Lock & Dam. Work on the project consisted of ensuring that each HSS was fabricated, assembled, and painted in accordance to the contract specifications. QA services included document and drawing reviews, physical inspections and testing, documentation, reporting, and correspondence with USACE to ensure project staff were kept up-to-date on the fabrication progress. Inspections were conducted at the fabricators shop as well as several assembly sites along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.
