We are seeking a Structural Steel Inspector with both Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Level II (MT and UT) and CWI certification who will report to our Minneapolis, Minnesota office.

Fickett Structural Solutions is a structural engineering, inspection and testing company headquartered in Madison, WI, with offices in Milwaukee, WI, Olympia, WA, and Minneapolis, MN. We also have remote employees in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Florida that support our four offices. We work nationally for Federal, State, and Local Agencies in addition to architects, engineers, and contractors. We mostly provide structural inspections and related engineering services for bridges, culverts, and highway ancillary structures, as well as locks and dams. Who You Are:
You are an experienced and unique individual who enjoys working closely with contractors, fabricators, and ironworkers. You are equally comfortable working in a fabrication shop or construction site. You are detail oriented with the ability to provide accurate inspections and documentation and ensure assembles are built to project and code specifications. You are someone who is accustomed to doing what it takes to get a job done; potentially working long days, working at heights, around traffic, and getting dirty. You are willing to spend a portion of time writing comprehensive inspection reports detailing your inspection findings. You are capable of taking tasks assigned by a Project Manager and performing the activities in a self-guided manner. What You Will Do:
You will use your skills and experience to perform visual inspections (VT) and NDT of structural steel utilizing MT Yoke method and UT Shear Wave method as specified by design, shop, and as-built drawings, specifications, and applicable industry codes. You will coordinate inspections and NDT with site project managers or responsible person in charge. You will prepares timely, detailed reports of the inspection and testing results, including descriptions, drawings, photos, etc., of nonconforming details with deficiencies identified.
When pursuing work, you will assist in the development of client presentations and meetings. You will be a positive contributor to the organization in helping us to offer the best services possible to our clients.
You will work out of our Minneapolis, MN, office with a primary focus on the Midwest. However, there will be opportunities to support other projects throughout the country.
Qualifications:
As a Structural Steel NDE/CWI inspector, you will have 2-year technical degree in NDT or equivalent combination of training, knowledge, and on-the-job experience. You will have documented proof of experience/on-the-job-training to meet the Level II requirements to SNT-TC-1A. Upon starting employment with Fickett, you will successfully pass NDT Level II Certification to SNT-TC-1A and Fickett Structural Solutions’ internal certification requirements for MT and UT. You hold a current certificate as a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) with D1.1 or D1.5 work experience or hold ICC Special Inspector Certifications in Structural Steel and Bolting and Structural Welding. You have minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with structural steel welding and bolting inspections, NDT and are familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which you are certified. Most importantly, you are able to exercise assigned responsibility without direct supervision.
You are comfortable with working at heights, utilizing lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and rope access. You have the ability to walk around fabrication shops, bridge and construction sites, around traffic, and on uneven terrain. You can move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance, handle power tools, utilize various testing instruments, reach with hands/arms, crawl/walk into small spaces, maneuver over fences and up steep embankments, climb ladders/ascend heights, and climb into various lifts. You are willing to work 40-hour work weeks and overtime as necessary. You are able to travel for out-of-town work, which will require overnight stays as needed. You will have a driver’s license in good standing and able to drive your personal vehicle to job sites. You have the willingness to attend company provided trainings.
