We are looking for an Entry Level Engineer with 0-4 years of experience to assist with our field inspection and reporting activities, and has the energy and passion to support and grow our efforts in Washington, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest.
Who We Are:
Fickett Structural Solutions is a structural engineering, inspection and testing company headquartered in Madison, WI, with offices in Milwaukee WI, Olympia WA, and Minneapolis MN. We also have remote employees in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Florida that support our four offices. We work nationally for Federal, State, and Local Agencies in addition to architects, engineers, and contractors. We mostly provide structural inspections and related engineering services for bridges, culverts, and highway ancillary structures, as well as locks and dams. We are fortunate to have long-standing partnerships across the country with multiple public and private clients. We bring our enthusiasm for the work to every project and we have fun doing it. We have a strong purpose in what we do; we ensure every structure we inspect is safe for our clients and the public.
Who You Are:
You are a talented and driven entry-level engineer who enjoys both office and field work, and is detail oriented with the ability to provide accurate inspections and documentation. You are someone who is accustomed to doing what it takes to get a job done; potentially working long days, working at heights, around traffic, and getting dirty. You are willing to adjust on the fly to office related activities including comprehensive inspection reports, assisting on design projects, load ratings, and other engineering related tasks. You are capable of taking tasks assigned by a Professional Engineer mentor and performing the activities in a self-guided manner. You are a person with leadership skills who will enjoy working for a growing company that will value your contributions.
You are someone that is humble, hungry, and smart. We protect our culture of treating each other with respect. We want people who are eager to try something new and want to grow individually and professionally. In addition to being strong technically, we expect our employees to have good judgment and intuition when dealing with others and to understand the impact of people’s words and actions.
What You Will Do:
You will use your skills and experience to assist our inspection crews while being mentored by our team of Professional Engineers. As part of an inspection team, you will perform structural inspections of bridges, culverts, ancillary structures, dams, and buildings throughout the United States. You will create detailed and professional reports based on the inspection findings and complete the report entry into DOT specific databases. During the course of inspection and reporting, you will be required to interpret plans and specifications to ensure newly constructed structures are in conformance to applicable plans, specifications, and Agency standards. You will assist in design and load rating calculations as directed by our Professional Engineers.
When pursuing work, you will assist in the development of client presentations and meetings. You will be a positive contributor to the organization in helping us to offer the best services possible to our clients.
You will work out of our Olympia, WA office with a primary focus on the Pacific Northwest. However, there will be opportunities to support other projects throughout the country.
Qualifications:
As an Entry Level Engineer with 0-4 years of experience, you will bring a 4-year Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Construction Management, or in your final semester of obtaining this degree. An EIT certificate is preferred, but will be necessary to obtain within 6 months of starting your career with us. Over the course of your college career, you have performed various summer internships or Co-ops in your field of study, preferably with an entity performing bridge inspections or related services. Ideally, you will have a working knowledge of a version of a drafting program, whether it be MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D or Revit. You have the ability to understand and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings. You are proficient with the standard Microsoft products, including Excel and Word.
You are comfortable with working at heights, utilizing lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and rope access. You have the ability to walk around bridge and construction sites, around traffic, and on uneven terrain. You are able to travel for out-of-town work up to 25% of your time, which will require consecutive overnight stays. You have the willingness to attend company provided trainings, including SPRAT rope access certification training, and various bridge inspection related courses to bolster your inspection knowledge.
You possess critical thinking and excellent communication skills and enjoy working collaboratively with coworkers, contractors and clients to achieve a common goal. You are someone who is motivated to succeed as well as helping those around you succeed.
What We Can Offer You:
Our competitive salary and benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life insurance; 401K/401K Roth with 4% employer match; generous PTO and paid holidays; opportunities for professional growth; tuition reimbursement; and a great company culture with strong values.
